Frederick Sherman (1888-1957) was an admiral of the U.S. Navy, who became Commander, United States Fifth Fleet before his retirement in 1947. He started as a submarine officer and then became a naval aviator, commanding Task Groups in Fast Carriers Pacific Fleet.
Do not confuse him with Admiral Forrest Sherman, Chief of Naval Operations (1949-1951).
