Managing Editor to Serve Temporarily As Approvals Manager-in-Chief, June 2014
Proposed by Anthony Sebastian 00:01, 5 June 2014 (UTC)
Because of the paucity of active and interested Editors, the current formal protocol for approving articles (http://ec.citizendium.org/wiki/EC:R-2011-027) cannot function. Without Editors to evaluate and approve or not approve articles requested for consideration of approval, the Citizendium cannot claim that approved articles have been vetted by experts.
Accordingly, until the Managing Editor and the Citizendium Council decide and agree that a sufficient number of active and interested Editors are available for vetting articles requesting approval, the Managing Editor will serve as Approvals Manager in Chief with the responsibility of personally evaluating articles requested for approval, and deciding whether to approve them or not. All decisions may be overridden by the Citizendium Council.
- In evaluating articles requested for consideration of approval, the Approvals Manager in Chief will fact-check the article, evaluate it for coherent narrative flow, compare its content and quality with comparable articles in other encyclopedias, including Wikipedia and Encyclopedia Britannica online (premium edition). The Approvals Manager in Chief will prepare a written summary of his or her evaluation. The Approvals Manager in Chief will consult with other Citizens as to the adequacy of the evaluation. The Approvals Manager in Chief may request other Citizens who have excellent track records in excellent writing to evaluate articles for approval, which the Approval Manager in Chief will decide whether to approve the article or not approve it.
- In addition to overriding any of the Approval Manager in Chief’s approvals, the Citizendium Council may suggest articles that appear ready for consideration of approval.
- Editors may continue to review and evaluate articles and approve high quality articles that treated topic adequately, as specified in the Charter, article 15.
- Editors who made major contributions the content of an article, may at their discretion and evaluation, approve their own article, as specified by http://en.citizendium.org/wiki/CZ:Managing_Editor/2012/004_-_Approval_of_Editor-authored_articles_when_no_appropriate_nominating_Editors_available.
- This referendum does not require modification of the Charter.
