thanks for the help

Just noticed you are ticking off the unchecklisted ones too. :) Chris Day 09:00, 21 January 2009 (UTC)

No problem. Also I've noticed that this page has a number of non-articles there. As I've said before, people trying to insert weird stuff on the wiki tend not to subpaginate. John Stephenson 09:01, 21 January 2009 (UTC)
A good way to catch it before it enters the stream. Chris Day 09:02, 21 January 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for your disambiguation of Labour. I have been trying to sort out a terminological mess, and that helps. Nick Gardner 05:56, 5 June 2009 (UTC) PS I don't see the need for footnotes: what did you have in mind?Nick Gardner 06:11, 5 June 2009 (UTC) ):

Thanks for the U.S. political help

It sometimes helps to have eyes on terminology, especially when a well-intentioned "native" author is working from journalistic sources rather than direct experience in the operations of politics. You have a good eye.

While I do have considerable direct political experience, I learn things from visitors. I'll never forget the observation of a friend, Swedish-born and European raised, now living in the U.S. and indeed teaching U.S. history as she finishes her doctorate. I was playing tourguide in Washington, DC, where I lived for about 40 years and know rather well, and we had first visited the Lincoln Memorial (which still has an emotional effect on me like few others). We walked two blocks to the Vietnam War memorial, "the wall", and Pia Kate commented "how appropriate these two monuments are so close!"

Puzzled, I asked her to explain, and she asked "weren't these the two times your country had the greatest internal instability?" One might make a couple of other suggestions, but it was a profound insight. Howard C. Berkowitz 07:38, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

Obama personal article vs. administration article

What is your thinking about how closely the articles should be tracking? For example, I put material about the National Security Council reforms into the administration but not the personal article, because Obama himself was not especially part of the discussion. True, the Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs was talking about his official relationship to the President, but I felt it wasn't James Jones talking about his relationship with Barack Obama. Howard C. Berkowitz 04:59, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for adding more to this article. Yes, I agree with you - material on the personal article should relate more firmly to Obama himself, and the activities of the many members of his administration are for the Obama administration article. John Stephenson 03:28, 16 February 2009 (UTC)

Recursive redirect

"English in Japan" now redirects to itself. I assume you intended it to redirect to something else -- true? Bruce M.Tindall 01:21, 1 March 2009 (UTC)

Yes - thanks for spotting that! John Stephenson 06:23, 2 March 2009 (UTC)

Hawaiian language

I want to write an article on the Hawaiian language, but I am afraid that I just wouldn't do it justice. Perhaps after I write up the basics, you could look over it for me? I'm don't have any formal education in Linguistics, nor do I have any real experience with Linguistics, but having grown up in Hawaii, I do have some experience with the language.Drew R. Smith 10:20, 20 June 2009 (UTC)

I have created the Hawaiian language article. Could you please take a look at it?Drew R. Smith 08:14, 25 June 2009 (UTC)

Inactive Editor bot

I've now created this bot, the code for which can be seen at User:Caesar Schinas/pwb/cg_inactiveeditor.py.
Two examples of the changes which it would make are this and this.
What do you think? Caesar Schinas 13:40, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

I have run the script through the list of editors, and it's a bit depressing to see the number go down from over 300 to under 50... Caesar Schinas 23:20, 29 June 2009 (UTC)
Still, a job well done. Clever that it moves the categories if they'd been in the wrong place. John Stephenson 02:17, 3 July 2009 (UTC)

Updating image code

Hi John, I'm afraid you are updating in the wrong direction here — these updates let the credit line disappear, which is not intended. Please take a closer look. Thanks! --Daniel Mietchen 11:01, 18 September 2009 (UTC)

Citizendium charter drafting commitee nomination

Hi John, You've been nominated by a fellow Citizendium member to be a candidate for election to the Citizendium charter drafting committee.

If you haven't been following the discussion in the forums, we're getting ready to establish a charter for Citizendium that outlines the project's goals, ideals, and basic structure. To get the process moving, we put together a plan for electing a group of Citizens to compose a draft of the charter, which will then be submitted for community review. You can find more about the plan here.

You've been nominated by another Citizen to be a candidate for election to that committee. The next step is up to you: you may either accept or decline the nomination by going here and following the instructions at the top of the page.

If you have any questions, just let any of those who accepted know. Daniel Mietchen 15:06, 29 September 2009 (UTC)

Charter drafting nomination

Hi John,
You were nominated by a fellow Citizendium member to be a candidate for a position on the Citizendium charter drafting committee, but you haven't indicated whether you want to accept or decline. To learn more about what the committee is all about, you can go to the page that describes the process. To indicate that you either accept or decline the nomination to participate in the process as a committee member, you should visit the subpage for nominations; there are instructions on what to do on that page.
Thanks much!

Speedydelete

The speedydelete template causes problems when the file is transcluded. Definitions are often transcluded (by the r-template).

Thus it is safer to use "<{{subst:fast del|text|sign}}>" .

See CZ:Article Deletion Policy#Procedures for deletion marking and deletion for details. Peter Schmitt 10:34, 10 October 2009 (UTC)

Great_Siege_of_Scarborough_Castle

Thanks for putting so much work into these articles, John. Russell, Howard, and I are all working on the charter, but we'll do our best to get this article moving toward approval too! --Joe (Approvals Manager) 18:49, 19 October 2009 (UTC)

Great Siege of Scarborough Castle

Approved... FINALLY! :) Congratulations John. You've worked hard for it. D. Matt Innis 13:10, 2 June 2010 (UTC)

Thanks! I enjoyed working on it, actually. :) John Stephenson 03:27, 4 June 2010 (UTC)

Plagiarism?

Several years ago you left some messages at User talk:Indra Adhikari regarding articles that had been copied from other websites. Upon investigation it seems like Nepal festivals may fall into the same category as it contains exactly the same text as this website. David Finn 09:18, 12 August 2010 (UTC)

I've blocked his account. His last activity was years ago and I see that he never responded to any of your requests. I can delete any articles that have copyright violations by this author with a speedydelete. D. Matt Innis 17:24, 12 August 2010 (UTC)

British Mandate of 1922

Thanks for getting this started. I've had writer's block on it, but now can begin to add detail. Howard C. Berkowitz 17:16, 20 August 2010 (UTC)

Slavery, U.S.

John would it be okay with you if I move it to U.S. slavery era? U.S. slavery and Slavery in the United States might be interpreted as meaning slavery currently exists. Adding the word "era" would avoid such interpretations. What do you think? Milton Beychok 07:28, 19 October 2010 (UTC)

By the way, I have now rehabilitated Black history, Slavery, U.S., Reconstruction and Freedmen's Bureau to the extent of my formatting capability. Milton Beychok 07:28, 19 October 2010 (UTC)

Going cold turkey

Hi, John, could you take a look at: http://en.citizendium.org/wiki/Talk:Roast_turkey#What_do_we_do_now_with_the_turkey_recipes.3F__Asking_for_opinions_and_thoughts.... and offer your considered opinion when you have a moment? Many thanks! Hayford Peirce 22:07, 19 October 2010 (UTC)

John, we have just been joined by Levan Ramishvili of Georgia as a new politics author. You may wish to post a welcome message on his Talk page. Milton Beychok 03:46, 20 November 2010 (UTC)

Spanish

First of all, thankyou for your wellcome. The fact is that I cheked the Spanish article a couple of days ago and I've planned to make some additons to it. I have some interesting bibliography from wich I can take many information. In the next days (or weeks, I'm crazy busy in "real life") I will work on it. Thankyou again and see you around.--Guillermo Velasco Rico 11:19, 7 January 2011 (UTC)

Curious about this edit

I was curious about this edit: [[1]] as I am unclear whether you are a Constable, Editor, or author just like me. Does this mean any CZ contributor can do this? Just learning how the system operates here. Thanks! Mary Ash 16:35, 11 January 2011 (UTC)

Articles on basic linguistic concepts

Hi John, can you please take a look at Names (words)‎, Nouns and number‎ and Objects (things)‎? They all need an overhaul, starting from the page title to the way they are written. They have all been started by a newcomer, so the changes need some more explanation than usual. Thanks! --Daniel Mietchen 20:22, 10 April 2011 (UTC)
