Denis,
I'll try and take a look at your article this weekend!

Since you're always on the lookout for new articles, can you have a read of Miniature Fox Terrier and comment if you're so inclined?  Thanks! Aleta Curry 02:34, 14 April 2008 (CDT)

:Aleta again.  Thanks awfully for the vote for New DOTW, I see it's up on the Main Page this week.  I'm delighted and embarrassed at the same time.  Aleta Curry 21:45, 23 April 2008 (CDT)

So, I was being nosy..
Saw your post on David Green's page, so I figured I'd point you to CZ:Editorial Council Resolution 0005 which sets the guidelines for what type of English should be used.  I noticed in the metadata for Spanish Civil War that no one has set the language.  I'm not familiar with the article's history, but it seems like if you have been the one to develop it past a stub, you can make that call.  --Todd Coles 12:49, 27 April 2008 (CDT)

Thats fine. It was an introductory paragraph before I got my hands on it, and I gave a very rough and brief rundown of the main events etc. on the rest. I'm generally indifferent either way, I don't share the same language-nationalism many of our British friends have (Since I'm Irish :-)) Denis Cavanagh 14:07, 27 April 2008 (CDT)

Spanish Civil War [edit]
Thanks for the much needed spelling and grammar corrections to the Spanish Civil War article i've been working on. I'm curious, however, as to why British English is been translated to American English; e.g, Favour to favor. Its not a big problem of course, but may be in the future as Citizendium grows. Regards, Denis Cavanagh 12:42, 27 April 2008 (CDT)

The article was mixed and I was attemting to make it consistent. Feel free to change it, if I was in error. David L Green 13:34, 27 April 2008 (CDT)

Grammar
Sorry, I'm not picking on you - you are one of the few who are writing on these historical topics. Think of it as collaboration, not persecution...(and don't forget I'm a newspaper editor by occupation). I miss things too. The best editing is done with about two passes, then turning it over to another editor. The hardest of all editing is done to your own work. My staff has to copyedit anything I write. I tell them that even an editor needs an editor. Good work on the articles and thanks for contributing.  David L Green 21:41, 29 April 2008 (CDT)

Rousseau
I had a brief look at the page. My feeling is that we remember Rousseau for some important philosophical ideas and texts, and the personal stuff is interesting but peripheral. The WP article on Rousseau looks surprisingly good on his political philosophy, so I would recommend using a fair bit of that if you don't know the stuff yourself. I am no expert on political philosophy, but one of my uni tutors (Robert Wokler) was a world authority on him, so I did learn a little about the guy. My advice would be to go easy on the biographical stuff and explain to readers why Rousseau is remembered, even today.  Martin Baldwin-Edwards 19:45, 7 May 2008 (CDT)

Deletion
i put a speedy delete tag on it since it is content.  I shouldn't really be deleting things.  I have the tool to clean up the subpages related cruft, in theory only the constables should be deleting content. Chris Day 11:38, 23 May 2008 (CDT)
:Only one n? I forgot yours is an Irish spelling. That's my English bias, sorry. At least its easier than Donnchadh. Chris Day 12:07, 23 May 2008 (CDT)
::Just noticed you're heading to Berkeley. I used to work there, I'll have to give you some tips on where to go. If you like. Chris Day 12:12, 23 May 2008 (CDT)

A belated response
Hi, I'm cleaning up my talk: page, and replying to messages I'd put off until later (much later, it turned out :-). Sorry this is so late... too much to do!

I did apply to be a history editor, and pointed out that I had actually done a substantial body of research from primary sources (took me about a year, tracking it all down), which was later published in a major book, but it didn't make the grade; I think the point was that they want to have high standards, and if they let me in, what will they say to someone else? Oh, well, I tried! J. Noel Chiappa 09:38, 4 June 2008 (CDT)

Greetings!
Hi, Denis. Thanks for the kind message on my page. I've never been to Ireland, although probably a third to a half of my genetic makeup is Irish. My maternal grandmother was a Dufty, which is not a name I've not been able to make a lot of sense of in Irish terms. Perhaps, like many names in early Australia, it was misspelled at some stage from Doughty. Anyway, that's neither here nor there. Great to make your acquaintance!

Cheers, David

Saw your cry for help. I think I've managed to make it look better, using the metadata template... Ro Thorpe 01:18, 13 December 2008 (UTC)

IRA
There is a pink link in insurgency to the IRA, which should become an article. The challenge becomes which faction and time to which the article should point. I'm inclined to have a single article including all factions, but it's on my list. I do have Coogan's book on hold at the library.

While I'm reasonably familiar with modern tactics, as well as British counterinsurgency in Northern Ireland, I can't go to the same depth as for other groups such as Vietnamese Communist groups. Let me know if you think there's some material that can be cloned from your current work. Howard C. Berkowitz 01:58, 24 January 2009 (UTC)

Coogans book is quite good, but for the Old IRA there are some better ones out there. Peter Hart has done some good work on it for example, including his doctoral thesis. In the war of independence article I was only really tweaking what Richard Jensen had wrote, mainly because its fresh in my mind at the moment since I'm doing a lot of reading about it right now. I was thinking of writing an article for the IRA at some point in the future, but am not sure how all encompassing that would be. Just off the batt there is the Old IRA and the provo's, but also all the fringe splinter groups as well (CIRA, RIRA etc.) It would be a long article. For the Old IRA I think it would require an article of its own, and then one for the provos and the splinter groups. And of course the intermittent IRA (The IRA between the Troubles and the war of independence) did launch periodic bombing campaigns, so they were never really 'off duty', so to speak.

Its a good idea, but I think I might continue working on biographies for the moment. Liam Lynch will be coming up soon! Denis Cavanagh 03:18, 24 January 2009 (UTC)

:I make many mistakes in my zeal, so if you want to get back on Conservapedia you have only to ask. --Ed Poor 19:00, 26 January 2009 (UTC)
::Believe me, I have no desire to return to conservapedia! Thanks anyway though. Just a bit of advice though - perhaps the lack of helpful editors joining conservapedia is because of poor editorial and managerial decisions rather than some Liberal conspiracy? Thats the impression I got from my time there. Denis Cavanagh 19:24, 26 January 2009 (UTC)

Restart of proposal system
Hello. Due to a lack of activity and attention on my part, the Proposal System has ground to a halt and discussion on all proposals has stopped. I decided to clean out the system by marking all proposals as inactive and removing their drivers. This also happened to your proposal "Should we remove the educational prequisites in place in order to be considered for the Constabulary?". I would be delighted if you decide that you want to take the proposal up again. You can do this by updating the proposal record, which can now be found at CZ:Proposals/Driverless. Please do not hesitate to ask if anything is unclear. Yours, Jitse Niesen 22:36, 23 February 2009 (UTC) (Proposals Manager)

I know you started the article but dropped it over neutrality concerns -- that sounds like you'd be a perfect person to check neutrality. Would you mind reviewing it periodically?

Right now, I'm trying to figure out the Phase IV planning, or confirm that it was as chaotic as I think. Howard C. Berkowitz 19:47, 5 July 2009 (UTC)
