South Korea (Korean: Namhan[1]), officially the Republic of Korea (Korean: Daehan Minguk,[2] i.e. 'Great Nation of the People of Korea'), is a state in the southern part of the Korean peninsula. It is bordered by North Korea and is surrounded by the Yellow Sea to the west and by the East Sea (Sea of Japan). The capital is Seoul.
