South Korea (Korean: Nam-han), officially the Republic of Korea (Korean: Dae-han Min-guk,[1]),[2] is a constitutional republic comprising the southern part of the Korean peninsula, which protrudes southward from the Northeastern Asian mainland and is met by the Yellow Sea to the west and the Sea of Japan (East Sea) to the east.
