The fact that there are "several hundred manufacturers in the US alone", or that "the following is a list of the major automobile manufacturers in the United States and much of the Western Hemisphere" is irrelevant to the subject of this article. It should be written from a global perspective. Initial Stub
I put this article in the Engineering Workgroup category as I wasn't sure where else it should go, or if perhaps an Automotive Workgroup should be created.
Also, this is at present more of a launching point for articles on the various OEMs and also the VIN system (which I work with daily). I hope to write articles on at least a few manufacturers as well as VINs over the next few days.
Split catalog and article
I suggest that the list of brands could be split off into Catalog of Automobile Manufacturers and lest this article develop as a regular article. Derek Harkness 11:50, 1 May 2007 (CDT)
Too US-centric
The fact that there are "several hundred manufacturers in the US alone", or that "the following is a list of the major automobile manufacturers in the United States and much of the Western Hemisphere" is irrelevant to the subject of this article. It should be written from a global perspective. Zunaid Parker 01:27, 7 November 2007 (CST)
