(ca 450 - 388? BC) Athenian comic dramatist (448–380 BC). Eleven of his plays have survived. A master of satire, his works include The Birds (414 BC) in which he introduced the concept of CloudCuckooLand as a place inhabited by people who are detached from reality. Satirists still refer to CloudCuckooLand today — for example, as the headquarters of the British Conservative Party.

Other plays by Aristophanes are Knights, Clouds, Wasps, Lysistrata, Frogs, and Wealth.
