There is a premise in this letter that I believe is false. That premise is that the letter is going out to people who have an interest in Wikipedia. In fact, there are many academics- certainly includng the overworked MD who is interested in the science and humanitarian aspects of medicine, who have ''no'' real knowledge of Wikipedia. An invitation to be part of something free of billing codes and hiearchial authority would be appealing to a few, who could be extremely productive. Why not invite the recipient to be part of a radical collaboration project and describe it as it is?  Describe what it hopes to be, from 'first principles'.  In a secondary paragraph, the Larry Sanger - Wikipedia connection can be made clear. More Introductory Info?

It strikes me that a letter that has more general introduction about wikis, why they're important, etc. might be the way to go. The current templates assume too much background knowledge, in my opinion. I'll start a letter with this characteristic shortly. --Jared Espley 15:05, 7 February 2007 (CST)

I think we're making some good progress here. We're going to want to start using some such letters in postings on mailing lists next week. I'm going to start, anyway. --Larry Sanger 16:28, 3 February 2007 (CST)

Dear (Insert Professor / Field-expert name here)

Please consider helping us write (blank) article.

Five years after the start of Wikipedia, many respected academic professionals are still extremely skeptical about Wikipedia's articles reliability and vandalism of articles by anonymous users. Citizendium's founder, Larry Sanger, was the cofounder of Wikipedia. After realizing some of its flaws, designed the framework for a future online Wiki-based encyclopedia that was open to imput by all with the gentle guidance of experts -- Citizendium. The article approval system on Citizendium is similar to peer review on academic journals. Experts verify that the information published is correct. This version is then locked in place until the article next comes up for approval. Users, who are required to use their real names and provide brief biographies to become authors, may continue to edit the wiki-file on the Draft page, one mere click away.

We are asking you, as an expert in your field, to join us as status of editor. Our request is not overbearing. We ask you join our project to check it out and participate in helping others to write one article. Hopefully, you will enjoy particpating in great collaboration in our fun academic community and will continue to assist us in unseating wikipedia as the go-to for easy, quick, and accurate public information on the world wide web.

We turn to you because you have dedicated your life to academic pursuit in your field of choice. Your daily work affects anywhere from hundreds to thousands (or more) people everyday. By helping us with this article, you would be helping the entire world.

We hope to see you join our team and look forward to your imput on (BLANK) article.

Cordially,

Citizendium Public Relations Team
